Raining blood, from a lacerated sky, bleeding its horror.
So, I return from reading. Though 4 days did pass between me last posting and when I went to reading, all these things have been made irrelevant by the awesomeness of reading. It all began at 6:30 on thursday morning (it was supposed to be 6, but my alarm fucked up). It was about 4 or 5 hours later by the time we were set up in Reading and everything, unfortunately we had a pitch which was inferior by far to the pitch we had last year, being a 10 minute walk from the arena. But we were with loads of friends, so it was all good. I then spent about an hour and a half in mr ben perrys tent, smoking a rather large amount of weed and hotboxing his tent a few times. I got pretty fucked, and remained this way for the majority of the day, except for a few hours of soberness inbetween drinking or smoking. Thursday evening we strolled around the camp, before eventually getting to bed about 12. And then it was friday, and the music had begun.
The Subways, who I saw at Reading last year as well, but this time they were on the main stage instead of the NME stage, they were pretty cool and I didn't get as crushed as I did last year.
Rise Against- Were awesome. I arrived just before they started, but managed to get right to the centre and get into a huge mosh pit which was going round the centre pole in the tent. Unfortunately a few people smashed into the centre pole, so the pit was soon moved a bit. Though they missed a couple of my favourite songs, they did play really well and it was a great set.
Belle and Sebastien- Only sat at the back for this, with dean going mental when they played the Teachers theme tune.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Despite myself kate and dean both agreeing that the lead singer is still terrifying, they were damn good. They played a lot of songs that I knew, and finishing with Y Control was just the best ever.
The Vines- Caught about half of their set, but what I saw was awesome. I even managed not to miss Ride.
Franz Ferdinand- I saw about half of these guys, and though they were pretty good, I had seen them before, and they wern't good enough to be a reading headliner, not on the main stage.
Primal Scream- Went with duncan to see these guys, they were much better than Franz in my opinion.
After the bands were done, we did another one of our strolls around the campsite before heading back to sleep. And then it was saturday.
Most of the earlier bands were spent making a "Paul Loves Feeder" sign, so The Cribs and The Futureheads were pretty much ignored. But Dirty Pretty Things were most certainly not ignored.
Dirtty Pretty Things- Were as good as I had expected. Carl Barat still has it. They played pretty much their whole album, including "You Fucking Love It" which made me happy.
Feeder- Were alright, but FUCKING YET AGAIN they failed to play any decent songs from their earlier albums, which are obviously better than the whiny gay shit they've been doing since their drummer died. And the Feeder sign failed, as some annoying twats decided to throw shit at it, and I got very little support from duncan who was helping me hold it up, who just laughed.
Arctic Monkeys- Opened with "I bet you...". Not what I expected, but then again the crowd was full of yobs who would probaly not want to wait to hear it. They played a cool set, including "Bigger boys and stolen sweethearts", which was cool. But I still fail to understand the hype about them. Yeah, they're good. But not that good. Probaly just because all the chavs like the fact that he has a bit of a chavvy voice.
Muse- Won second best act of the weekend. You'll have to wait to see who came first. They opened with Knights of Cydonia, which I did vaguely recognise, and it was a great song. Thankfully they didn't play too much off their new album, as I hadn't really listened to it much. I was at the barrier until Plug In baby, at which point I had to give in because I was almost dying. But I had a great view throughout, and collapsed as soon as I got back to the tent. That evening one of Kates friend, Franchesca was down, so we took her and her brother for a stroll around the campsite. And then kate and franchesca went for a stroll alone, and then it was like 5AM, so they had to sleep in our tent. I woke up the next morning, and it was SUNDAY! The best day of the weekend.
The day started with Killswitch Engage, who rocked. I saw them at Taste of Chaos, but didn't know much by them. I knew a bit more this time, and they had some awesome pits, so its all good.
Taking Back Sunday- Were cool, but yet again they didn't play "You're So Last summer" or a load of songs from their first album. I then headed over to the NME tent where I saw..
The Dresden Dolls- Were damn good, in my opinion. Though I had innes and kate there to annoy me and whine about how I just stood still for the whole thing. I didn't plan on moshing for The Dresden Dolls, and I still enjoyed myself.
Hope Of the States- After mine and mikes failure to see them at the Koko, I was glad to get a good place to see them this time. They played all the good stuff off their first album, and despite a load of techinal difficulties they played a great set, and they played really well. Unfortunately they were soon to be overshadowed by..
SLAYERRRR- Best band of the weekend. No question about it. I got an awesome place right at the front, and it was the best crowd ever. I was near the front, there was loads of mosh pits, but I was never crushed. They opened with South of Heaven, and played amazingly. Highlights included South of Heaven, War Ensemble (before which there was a yell from the stage of "ARE YOU READY FOR WAR", to which the crowd responded with screams of delight, and then there was an even louder scream when the cry of "WAR ENSEMBLE" went up.) And finally, there was Raining Blood. It was, obviously, the last song in their set, and everyone went fucking insane. It needed no introduction, and for five minutes, thousands of Slayer fans where in heaven. Or more likely Hell, as we all wanted to be South of Heaven. At some point during the song, I met a knackered looking Nick, who had been having as much of a good time as I had. When Slayer went off, there was repeated yells of "Slayer, Slayer, Slayer" for about five minutes, and when it was announced that My Chemical Romance were up next, there was a yell of "Emo Cunts".
My Chemical Romance- Myself and nick retired to the back and where met by everyone, and we sat down to watch My Chemical Romance get bottled, most prolly by Slayer fans who wanted more.
Placebo- Were dissapointing. They played a load of their new stuff, and then had some techinal
dificulties for about ten minutes, during which the cameras scanned the crowd searching for women to flash the camera. And everyone booed one random emo chick who decided to keep her dignity. And when they did come on, they still played a load of their new stuff, and not enough old stuff. They played well, and I enjoyed it, but they could have played a much better set.
Pearl Jam- Were pretty cool, but I was far too tired to enjoy them that much, so I sat at the back with everyone and chilled. I even left before their second encore, as I was totally and utterly knackered. And thus the bands ended.
We strolled around for a bit after Pearl Jam, but they were little riots happened, so we headed back to the tent and I laid down on my pillow, soon to fall asleep without even realising it. Monday morning we packed up and headed home, and thus Reading Festival was over. Now I'm gonna go watch Once Upon A Time In America. Au revoir.
